The Trust is grateful to all of its sponsors for the financial support they have provided to enable us to restore Pomona and Rona Islands. In particular we would like to acknowledge the following organisations and individuals:
Lottery Grants Board (Environment and Heritage) for funding to cut tracks on Pomona, to eradicate possums from Pomona and for the preparation of a pest management plan and social impact assessment.
Department of Conservation Community Fund for its contribution to cutting tracks and keeping rat numbers at undetectable levels on Pomona.
The Meridian Manapouri Community Fund enabled the Trust to set up a Friends of Pomona scheme. Funding has also been provided for the transfer of mohua to Pomona and the establishment of a bait station network on Rona to keep mice at undetectable levels so that the island can continue to be used as a crèche site for the critically endangered Haast tokoeka.
Funding from Kiwis for Kiwi is helping the Trust to protect Pomona and Rona as a safe habitat for the Haast tokoeka as well as enabling us to determine whether kiwi are breeding successfully on Pomona.
Over the years a number of donations from Gary Chisholm has enabled us to expand our trap and bait stations lines on Pomona, Rona and the adjacent mainland.
A Transpower grant helped eradicate possums from Pomona.
A significant donation from Donald Riley with a contribution from the Community Trust of Southland enabled the Trust to undertake an aerial operation to eradicate rodents from both Pomona and Rona Islands.
Baseline research on the islands was funded by the Leslie Hutchins Conservation Foundation.
Neil Robertson, former trustee, has donated xxxx trail cameras for monitoring pests and native wildlife.
The Trust would also like to acknowledge the following organisations and individuals for their support over the years: Department of Conservation, Forest and Bird Southland Branch, local family Trusts (that wish to remain anonymous), Fiordland Helicopters, Fiordland Cinema, Adventure Kayak & Cruise and Barry Harcourt for the use of his amazing photos.
